Quick Tip: How to Make Regular Oats as Fast as Instant Oatmeal
We’ve already compared the health benefits of regular oats and instant oatmeal, so now lets find out how to make regular oatmeal in a hurry.
If you prefer the very soft texture of instant oats to the nubbier, chewier texture of regular rolled oats, this tip won’t help you. But if the main attraction of instant oats is the quick preparation time, this tip is for you. Place 1/2 cup regular (old-fashioned) rolled oats and 1 cup water into a microwave safe bowl, along with a pinch of salt, if desired. (If you like your oatmeal a little soupier, use 1/3 cup oats) Cover bowl with a lid or inverted plate and microwave on high for 2 ½ to 3 minutes. Voila! In the time it takes to wait for the kettle to boil to make instant, you can enjoy all hearty goodness of old-fashioned oatmeal.
