If you choose to drink alcohol, moderate consumption can lower your risk of heart disease and increase your life expectancy. It doesn’t matter what kind of alcohol you drink–although red wine does offer some added benefits. But it’s very important to get the amount right. Having more than one (for women) or two (for men) drinks a day shortens your life expectancy. A drink is one 5-ounce glass of wine, a 12-ounce bottle of beer, or a 1.5 ounce shot of hard liquor. For a reality check, get out the measuring cup next time you’re mixing. And for even more tips, check out my episode on alcohol consumption.
