Ask the Diva: About Sweetened Yogurt
Q. Does adding sweetener to yogurt kill the beneficial bacteria?
Answer. Sweeteners in yogurt don’t affect the beneficial bacteria to any significant degree, but they can turn an otherwise healthful choice into a sugar-loaded calorie bomb. Sweetened yogurt may contain up to 30 grams of added sugar–about 8 teaspoons worth! Vanilla yogurt with fresh fruit is a much better bet. Plain yogurt with fruit would be best of all!
