Tips from Listeners: Worldly Wednesdays
Heather recently sent this great tip for getting more variety into your diet. She calls her idea “Worldly Wednesdays.”
“I started by picking one country that begins with each letter of our alphabet (except for X). I tried to pick countries from all corners of the Earth and stayed away from the easy locations, such as Italy and Mexico. I printed a map and put pins in each country for a visual representation of where our menus will originate.
Each week I have my son pick the country for the following week’s meal. He prepares a short (really short) presentation regarding the geography, history, and culture of the country. I pick the menu and prepare the meal. Three weeks into 2010 we have had meals from France, Afghanistan, and Peru. Next week is Korea.
I am really enjoying this little project and I feel that it keeps us from falling into the standby food rut. It is nice to make meals an event.”
I love this idea! It sounds like a lot of fun, as well as a great learning tool for kids. Thanks for the tip, Heather!
