Podcasting 101: Resources to Get Started
Interested in starting a podcast? Everyone wants to have a voice. One of the best ways to get your voice heard is through podcasting. However, is podcasting for you? If so, how do start a podcast? Are you wondering if there’s a Podcasting 101 out there? Lisa B. Marshall can help you answer all those questions.
Here’s an email I recently received:
Hi Lisa,
I listen to your podcast, Quick and Dirty Tips, and I love it!
I want to start a podcast of my own – to tell short stories from a discontinued story book from India. I just do not know where to start! Can you please give some tips on how to start a podcast, how to tell stories that can keep the audience hooked, and how to prepare for a podcast with a bad voice?
Thank you, Siri
Thanks for your question, Siri!
Your question is not unusual, and you may be surprised to find out there’s a lot of information on QDT about podcasting. I’d like to share some of those resources with you.
Before you even take the plunge, you need to decide if you really should have a podcast. The Digital Marketer, also a QDT writer, has an article called exactly that: Should You Podcast?. And I did a series on podcasting called How to Create a Podcast: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. This will give you lots of help. In addition, Grammar Girl posted a podcast titled, How to Podcast a Book, although it specifically refers to podcasting your own book. Before podcasting a book created by another author, you must confirm that it is in public domain, or get the author’s permission.
You can learn much more about podcasting from some real podcast masters whom I have personally met; Dave Jackson, John Lee Dumas, Pat Flynn, and Cliff Ravenscraft all have strong programs to help you start a podcast. As I said, I’ve met all of these men and I trust their work.
Good luck with your podcasting, and let me know how it goes!
