5 Things You Didn’t Know Could Clean Wood
You may know that there are lots of ways to make household cleaners with products you already have at home. But did you know things like beer, tea, vinegar, and cornstarch can clean wood? Here are our five favorite items you never would have guessed can make your wood floors and furniture shine.
Clean Wood with Beer
Stale beer is a great cleanser for wooden furniture. The next time you have flat beer leftover in a can, don’t dump it out. Instead, use it to dampen a soft, clean cloth, then wipe it onto your wood furniture. Dry with a dry cloth and it will shine!
DIY Wood Polish
There’s no need to buy a special cleaner for your wood floors. Simply mix 3 parts vegetable oil with 1 part white vinegar in a spray bottle, and apply. Shine with a clean cloth until the solution is gone. This will also get old wood furniture gleaming!
Use Tea to Keep Wood Shiny
Keep your hardwood floors looking their best with black tea! Put 1 quart boiling water into a bucket with several bags of black tea. Allow the mixture to steep for 10 minutes, then remove the bags. Lightly dampen a cloth with the mixture and rub it on the floor. When it dries, wash the floor as usual to reveal an bright sheen.
Easiest Wood Cleaner
For an effective alternative to wood cleaners and polishes that takes about 3 seconds, use baby wipes to whip your wood furniture and paneling into shape. Perfect for when company is on the way and you realize you haven’t dusted!
Prevent Polish Buildup
Excess polish can build up and leave a dull finish on wooden furniture. To remove it, sprinkle cornstarch over your wood furniture, then wipe in with a soft cloth. Who knew?
