A Homemade Face Mask for Every Skin Type
Who doesn’t love some time at the spa … even if that spa is your bathroom with a couple of candles? With these DIY face mask recipes, you’ll not only save money and get the same results as expensive store-bought varieties, you won’t mind that you had to lock the door so your kids won’t barge in.
Simple Avocado Face Mask
To make this face mask, just mash up a ripe avocado (the fruit shouldn’t be tough, and it give a little when touched). Apply to your face and let set for 15 to 20 minutes. Add some cucumbers to your eyes for extra relaxation! Rinse with warm water.
DIY Face Mask for Oily Skin
Bananas are great for oily skin. Mash one banana with a teaspoon of honey and a couple of drops of lemon juice. Apply to your face and let sit for 15 minutes before washing with a cool washcloth.
DIY Face Mask for Dry Skin
Mix one egg yolk with a teaspoon of honey and teaspoon of olive oil. Leave on your face for as long as possible, then wash it off. The vitamin A in the egg yolk is great for your skin!
Face Mask for Exfoliating and Nourishing
Mix 1/4Â cup brown sugar with 1 1/2 tbsp of whole or 2% milk. Rub into your face, then leave on for 10 minutes. The brown sugar will exfoliate while the milk will moisturize. (And if you happen to get any in your mouth, it tastes pretty good, too!)
DIY Clay Face Mask
This one’s a little “out there,” but it’s cheap, easy, and works absolutely fantastically. Believe it or not, clay cat litter is actually the exact same clay that’s found in some of the most expensive face masks on the market. Find some cat litter labeled “100% all-natural clay” and mix it with water until it gets to the consistency you want. Add a drop of essential oil in your favorite scent (which will also help make it seem less like you’re applying cat litter to your face). Apply to your face and let sit until it hardens. When you wash off the dried clay, you’ll wash off tons of impurities with it.Â
Skin-Soothing Face Mask
This face mask is perfect for sunburned or irritated skin. Combine 1/4 cup full-fat yogurt with 2 tbsp of oatmeal. Mix vigorously for one minute, then apply to your face. Leave on for at least ten minutes, then wash off with warm water. Enjoy!
