Kara Rota is Director of Editorial & Partnerships at Cookstr.com, a Macmillan portfolio company and recipe site whose mission is to digitally organize cookbooks and recipes of all types and make them easily accessible. Growing up outside of Philadelphia and Chicago with an Italian father and a mother who was a macrobiotic chef turned raw vegan, Kara was always immersed in the culture and values behind why people eat what they do. She headed children’s programming at Chicago’s Green City Market and studied food politics at Sarah Lawrence College.
Prior to joining Cookstr in 2011, Kara was an editor at Irish America Magazine.
Kara has been a featured speaker at numerous venues including Food Book Fair, the Roger Smith Food Conference, and the Brooklyn Food Conference. She has written about food for Irish America Magazine, West Side Rag, Recipe Relay, and Food + Tech Connect. She has also been interviewed by Good Food Jobs, CBS Smart Planet, Long Island Woman Magazine, Skillcrush, Heritage Radio Network, and Betabeat.
