Q. There are new fiber products on the market that you can allegedly stir into water (or even a glass of wine!) without noticing them. Can they possibly be doing any good?
A) The fiber supplements you’re talking about are made from wheat dextrin, a soluble fiber that’s extract from wheat starch. Unlike “old-school” psyllium fiber supplements, wheat dextrin isn’t gritty and doesn’t cause liquids to thicken. It’s also said to be less likely to cause gas or bloating than other types of fiber.
