Ask the Diva: Food and Bloating
Q: Are certain foods more likely to make you feel bloated after you eat?
A: Responses to foods are somewhat individual. There may be foods that cause you to feel bloated but wouldn’t bother me. But some of the most common culprits are cabbage, broccoli, and other fibrous foods that can cause a lot of intestinal gas. (See episode #37 for tips for reducing gas.) Foods high in salt can cause your body to hold onto excess water, which can make you feel bloated. (I also did a show on salt.) Carbonated beverages can make some people feel temporarily bloated. And finally, eating too much of anything can make your waistband feel tight. And unlike gas or water weight, the effect may not be temporary! So keep your portions under control!
