Happy Pi Day!
The Math Dude celebrates Pi Day.
Jason Marshall, PhD
In case you haven’t heard, today is a pretty big holiday for math enthusiasts. As we saw in our π-inspired arts-and-crafts project in this week’s Math Dude episode, the value of π is approximately 3.14. If you get a bit creative and turn this number into a date you get March 14. And that’s precisely why every March 14 (today!) math enthusiasts around the world gather together across the interwebs to celebrate π. Now, you might be wondering: How in the world am I supposed to celebrate a number? Well, there’s really no right or wrong way to do it, so feel free to celebrate π in whatever way moves you. If you need a suggestion, you can always follow Vi Hart‘s lead and try this.
Have fun! And if you want to know more about pi day, check out the official pi day home—although their site appears to be down right now…apparently it just couldn’t handle all the excitement!
