Ask the Diva: Grapeseed Oil
Q. On your podcast about canola oil you said it was made from a certain strain of grapeseed oil. I have read that grapeseed is the best oil one can use. Is it as healthy or healthier than canola? I’m confused!
Answer. Canola oil is made from a strain of rapeseed oil, not grapeseed oil. I can see how you might have been confused! Grapeseed oil has a higher smoking point than canola or olive oil. That makes it a good choice for sautéing or stir-frying. You get more heart-healthy monounsaturated fats from canola and olive oils, though. Also, because grapeseed oil is mostly polyunsaturated fats, it can go rancid more quickly than canola or olive oil. To keep your grapeseed oil fresh, keep it in the fridge.
