About the Author
Besides writing books and hosting The Math Dude podcast, Jason Marshall works as a research scientist at Caltech studying starburst galaxies and quasars. Prior to that, he was a postdoctoral scholar at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Jason obtained a Ph.D. from Cornell University, and a B.S. in astrophysics from UCLA. In addition to these astronomical interests, Jason also has many earthly diversions. These include travelling the world, tinkering with technology, watching and playing soccer, and spending time with his wife, Shannon, exploring the world around their Los Angeles area home.
About the Book
Algebra is hard for lots of people—but it doesn’t have to be. Check your confusion at the door and start the journey to understanding with The Math Dude’s Quick and Dirty Guide to Algebra.
Many people don’t understand algebra because they either don’t care about the subject enough to bother trying or they never learned the fundamental math concepts needed to succeed. This book will nullify both threats.
Math Dude Jason Marshall will kick things off with a review of everything you need to know to succeed in algebra—sort of a math basic training camp. After you’ve mastered fractions, decimals, and other key concepts, you’ll be ready to move on to the main event: understanding algebra. Whether discussing polynomials or giving step-by-step instruction on how to use order of operations to solve equations, Jason’s clear, easy-to-follow explanations and relevant, real-world examples will have even the most mathphobic smiling with relief that they actually “get” it.
Not only that, fun sidebars on test-taking tips, quick and dirty math memory tricks, and advice for avoiding common mistakes will boost learning and give readers the tools they need to succeed. The bottom line is this: math is useful, but it should be fun too. And in this book, it will be.
