Milk Before Bed?
Balancing milk’s sleep-inducing effect with the calorie cost.

Q: Some people say a glass of milk before you go to bed will help you sleep well but others insist that you should not eat or drink anything after 9pm to avoid gaining weight. I am so confused, could you give me some advice?
A: If drinking a glass of milk makes you feel sleepy, it’s fine to have one before bed. But the sleep-inducing effect may be mostly in your head. Although milk contains both tryptophan and calcium, two compounds that reportedly induce drowsiness, a glass of milk doesn’t really contain enough of either to have a noticeable effect. If you’re after a good night’s sleep, I’d keep it to just one glass, however. Drinking too many fluids right before bed may have you up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.
