Twitter Etiquette 101
How to be polite over Internet 2.0. (Hint: don’t take things personally).
Richie Frieman
When using Twitter, don’t feel like you have to follow everyone who follows you. Follow only the people whose tweets interest you and don’t feel bad about un-following someone for any reason. They will continue to muse 140 characters at a time even if you are not around. And don’t hang your self-worth on whether someone else follows your updates. It’s not worth it.
I’ve mentioned before that manners involve making others feel important; however, this is your social life. The ignoring and the un-following is going to happen. It’s what you do with the tools in the meantime that is most crucial. Check your comments to make sure they are respectful, and remember that whatever comments or photos you release into the Inter-Tubes might be there for a long time.
That said, feel free to follow me on Twitter for more Quick and Dirty Tips on better manners. But don’t worry — I won’t take it personally if you don’t.
